“Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs or pockets within or on the surface of an ovary. Women have two ovaries — each about the size and shape of an almond — located on each side of the uterus. Eggs (ova) develop and mature in the ovaries and are released in monthly cycles during your childbearing years.
Many women have ovarian cysts at some time during their lives. Most ovarian cysts present little or no discomfort and are harmless. The majority of ovarian cysts disappear without treatment within a few months.” Mayo Clinic
Many women suffer through these every month. Trapped in pain and discomfort.
So what can be done? Well healthy life choices can play a part in lowering the risks and in some cases lowering the length and frequency of the attacks.
Stress is a trigger. A good meditative practice along with exercise will have a definite impact. I suggest a yoga routine which will give you a bit of both in one package. At least twice a week but more often if your life is stressful and drama oriented.
In pain – A castor oil pack may be your answer. A bit of soft cotton soaked in castor oil and placed under a heating pad will open up the lymphatic system. Plus it’s really relaxing!! I love doing this for no other reason than it feels wonderful and my skin loves the oil.
Dietary Choices Matter – Eat a diet with plenty of raw fiber foods – raw fruit, dark green leafy vegetables (folic acid really helps) whole grains, legumes and garlic.
If you can’t pronounce it or grandma didn’t eat it . . . – As always avoiding processed foods, limiting the intake of red meats, and white sugar is always a win. Yet if your choice is aspartame/nutrasweet or other processed choose honey or sugar even white sugar is better than processed chemicals.
Decrease your caffeine and alcohol intake – yet balance is key because a glass of red wine is good for relaxing and for your heart.
Detox your body – apple detox to clear your liver and kidney’s is also a wonderful way to move out anything that could be clogging your internal life. Three days of apples and water. Your colon, kidney and liver will love you. Chelating may have some benefit as well – Chelating Smoothie
Perfect Purple Detox Smoothie from Smoothie Web
I haven’t tried this detox smoothie with the exact ingredients yet. The smoothie detoxing ingredients are extensive and may be hard to find, so feel free to substitute where you need to. The original recipe writer write, “the cayenne powder gives it a spicy punch that intensifies the rest of the flavors, such as sweet-tart raspberries, antioxidant-rich wild blueberries, tangy apple cider vinegar, smooth almond milk, sweet acai juice, nutty flax seed meal and the coconut water ice cubes.”
With a healthy description like that you know its got to be worth trying. Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods stores will have the ingredients, but I put links to some of them on Amazon if you need to buy from there.
