Vitamin D – Deprived Indoor

Some Pills Should Be Popped

The indoor life gives modern man protection from the elements and the ability to watch Gossip Girl in private. Unfortunately, roughly half of us are deficient in vitamin D which the sun is a major source. This crucial vitamin may aid in fighting cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. “I take a 1,000 IU supplement each morning.” Dr Oz

Vitamin D may seem insignificant but it’s what I call a helper vitamin. It helps calcium be absorbed. It helps B work harder.

A mere 50 years ago we weren’t vitamin D deficient. We worked outside. Gardening, farming and even just playing. Now . . .

Of course the best source of vitamin D is that big fire star we call the sun. A few minutes a day.

Yet, since vitamin D is such a helper, supplements that include it in it’s helper role are very beneficial. But don’t use that as an excuse to stay inside.

Get outside.

Vitamin D helps in healing. Had an injury? Feeling down?

Take a walk with an apple, a banana and a bottle of water. Walk until the fruit is gone and the water is half gone.  Finish the water on the way back.  It’s not long but you’ve gained fruit (fiber and a multitude of vitamins) and water plus a bit of Vitamin D.

Follow with a vitamin rich smoothie.

Not only is it important to replace the electrolytes but the vitamins you just used. Top your tank off so to speak.

Orange Matcha Shot along with a green smoothie is the perfect after walk boost.

About MatchaGT by ShelleRae

Welcome! I am ShelleRae and I am very excited you are here. I joined the Smoothie Essentials team about 5 years ago now. Always health conscious and into prevention versus medication it seemed natural when the opportunity came up to take on the creation of this blog and the Smoothie Essentials blog as well. As mother to three and surrogate to many more I've practiced much of what I write on sometimes with great success and other times with a bit less. My friends and family are my test kitchen and my facts are most often from WebMD - they seem to have a fairly accurate and conservative approach. Used for centuries in Japanese tea ceremonies, Matcha provides a powerful pick-me-up plus antioxidants and other health benefits to keep the body, mind and spirit in perfect balance. While many forms of green tea are strained or brewed, Matcha GT uses the whole tea leaf providing the full benefits and bold taste of whole green tea powder. My inspiration comes from others who also are striving to live a better life through lifestyle changes.
